Fifth Grade Vocabulary Notebook
In the fifth grade class, students will use a vocabulary notebook to record words they do not know how to spell. They will use this notebook in their general education classroom and their ELL classroom. From time to time they will take them home and practice them for a spelling test once a month.
This mentor text is about how to distinguish between an opinion and a fact, if you agree or disagree and pros and cons of a topic. We will learn how to become better writers using this text by using transitions in our writing like: first, for instance, as well as, compared to, not only, finally, to summarize, as a result and many more.
A video about occupations.
The students in 5th grade ELL class are working on using this mentor text to write about what happened in their past and contrast that with what is happening now. We are using a sentence frame to help them with their ideas.
When I was little I .......
but now I can......
Parents can review the story with them at home and help them generate ideas about what to write about. Please do not write about it at home, simply talk about your ideas and I will help them with their writing at school.
