World-Class Instructional Design and Assessment
(WIDA)
- WIDA Screener- W-APT stands for the WIDA-ACCESS Placement Test. It is an English language proficiency "screener" test given to incoming students who may be designated as English language learners. It assists educators with programmatic placement decisions such as identification and placement of ELLs. After the scores are received, if the student qualifies, he/she will be placed in an English Language Learner (ELL) class. The student's English level will determine the amount of time and number of days the student will receive services.
- Spring WIDA ACCESS - The spring WIDA ACCESS for ELLs (Assessing Comprehension and Communication in English State-to-State for English Language Learners) is a secure large-scale English language proficiency assessment given to Kindergarten through 12th graders who have been identified as English language learners (ELLs). It is given annually in WIDA Consortium member states to monitor students' progress in acquiring academic English. The results will be used to place students in classes during the following school year. Results will be mailed to the parents in early September of the following school year.
During the months of February and March students who are English Language Learners (ELLs) will be given a state mandated test called the WIDA Access. According to the State of Michigan, a student must meet all of the protocol requirements to be considered for exit from services and exemption from taking the annual WIDA Access:

M-Step for all Students
The M-Step is a state assessment for all students in grades 3-11. The ELL students, who have been here for less than a year, do not have to take the Language Arts portion, but must take the other parts.
